Massachusetts Woman-Owned General Sales Agent, Logistics, Air and Trucking Transportation Services Provider Opens for Business in Alaska

BOSTON, MA, August 2022 – ImEx Cargo, a top, independently- and woman-owned airline general sales and service agent (GSSA) for New England, New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, has been awarded DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) and ACDBE (Airport Concession Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.

The Anchorage International Airport is the 4th largest international airport in the world for cargo throughput; it is never closed for snow, it is operational 24 hours a day, and it boasts a 4,612-acre complex with hundreds of acres available for cargo and logistics development.

Beginning August 2, 2022, the DBE and ACDBE certifications allow ImEx Cargo to participate as a service provider on transportation-related contracts with federal and state funding in Alaska. The certification includes contracts related to scheduled freight air transportation, non-scheduled chartered freight air transportation, and other non-scheduled air transportation. It also allows ImEx to manage agreements for general freight trucking, local, long-distance and less than truckload, other freight transportation arrangements, packing and crating, and all other support activities for transportation.

“We are honored to receive the DBE and ACDBE certifications from Alaska,” stated Michelle DeFronzo, ImEx Cargo’s CEO. “We appreciate the initiative for agencies and organizations throughout the state to utilize small minority and women-owned businesses. It’s a tremendous opportunity.”

In addition to helping to create economic opportunities for small businesses, there are operational advantages to working with DBEs. Many government agencies and municipal authorities must fulfill DBE participation requirements to meet contract goals. Companies that meet or exceed DBE requirements can experience an advantage when bidding on U.S. and State Department of Transportation (DOT) supported contracts. DBE-certified businesses are under greater public scrutiny and tend to work harder to provide the highest quality products and services.
